(Ecofin Agency) - In a bid to participate to Congo’s agricultural development, Rwanda wishes to acquire and exploit arable lands in the country. This was revealed by Rwanda’s ambassador near Congo, Jean-Baptiste Habyarimana, as he met with Congo’s minister of land affairs and State domains, Pierre Mabiala.
“Congo has lands and Rwanda has experience in the agricultural sector since a significant proportion of our population invested in this sector. We just formed a joint team which will work on this project that is key to our two nations,” the diplomat told the Central African News Agency (Agence d’Information d’Afrique centrale).
The agency recalls that Rwanda is not the only one to be interested in Congo’s lands. Indeed, the Ugandan firm Good Farm just signed a memorandum of understanding with Congo’s minister of agriculture and husbandry to acquire 20,000 hectares.
