(Ecofin Agency) - In Cote d’Ivoire, the minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, officially put into office the members of the council for monitoring of the rural land agency (AFOR). The related ceremony took place in Abidjan, and marked the commencement of the institution’s operations which was established in 2016 as a result of President Ouattara’s will to boost land tenure in the country.
“This was a necessary choice for us, operation-wise. It was the most appropriate answer to tackle challenges which were opposing this goal,” the minister told AIP.
“I realize how demanding the task will be considering how complex the issue of rural land management is. We will however achieve our goal efficiently and strictly. Rural land is currently a major topic in regards to social cohesion and especially as an indicator of performance and stability of the agricultural environment as a whole,” added for his part the president AFOR’s monitoring council, General Gervais Kouassi.
According to the press agency, the members of the council were appointed during the ministers council held on August 2, 2017.
