(Ecofin Agency) - Tunisia’s horticultural industry is being threatened by the New Delhi virus. Indeed, the disease has affected greenhouse cultivations in the North-Kelibi and El Faouar communities, TAP reported.
The president of the Limagues agricultural grouping, Mohamed Rehaimi, revealed that “out of the 395 greenhouses that constitute the grouping, about 50 have been affected”. He affirmed that “the lack of awareness campaigns, the lack of means of protection, and the cold weather are the main factors behind the propagation of the virus”.
The official also called authorities to take measures to halt this propagation which inhibits the growth of flowers and fruits.
Discovered in 1995, the “New Delhi” is a whitefly-transmitted virus.
