(Ecofin Agency) - On Sunday 1st October, 2017, the Hanns Seidel foundation distributed in the Democratic Republic of Congo land titles to 260 farmers under the NTSIO agroforestry project. The distribution took place in the presence of the Congolese minister of environment and sustainable development, Amy Ambatobe Nyongolo, and the European Union’s ambassador, Bart Ouvry.
“Land titles awarded to us are very important. They make us feel safe with the lands that we use under the agroforestry project which help us fight food insecurity,” one of the initiative's beneficiaries told website L’actualité.
Launched since 2012 in the Batéké Plateau in partnership with the European Union and the Congolese ministry of environment, the project consists “in supporting the part of rural populations which is involved in the production system in order to improve Kinshasa’s populations’ access to food products”, the website added.
