(Ecofin Agency) - The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) just launched in Tamale, Ghana, a $113 million project to promote agricultural value chains in the country. Entitled Ghana Investment Program (GASIP), the project will last six years and be implemented by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (Mofa).
The GASIP will mainly include development of infrastructures, technology transfer, agricultural production and research to provide population food of better quality. The program will benefit 12,000 rural homes and its implementation will be a major milestone in Ghana’s medium term agriculture sector investment plan (METASIP).
According to Roy Ayariga, coordinator of GASIP, the project will help farmers deal with some of the challenges they currently face, such as post-harvest losses or difficult access to markets.
