(Ecofin Agency) - During the 2017-2018 cocoa season, the offer will be superior to the demand. According to recent figures from the international cocoa organization, the surplus of the ongoing season should stand at 105,000 tons against 300,000 tons during the 2016-17 campaign.
Though this is the second consecutive year that the offer is higher than the demand, the organization indicated that compared with the output during the previous season, the global cocoa output should fall by 2.3% to stand at 4.63 million during this season.
Meanwhile, global grindings are expected to grow by 2%, reaching a record of 4.49 million tons as the world prices decline. This should encourage processors to boost their businesses and improve margins. This good momentum will be driven by Asia and Oceania where the volume handled will increase by 3% as well as by Europe with an increase of 2%.
