Solar kits for African households are now being assembled on the continent. On Wednesday, March 25, provider of decentralized solar solutions Ignite Energy Access announced the completion of the first phase of its local assembly line rollout.
Assembly is now operational in four African markets: Zambia, Uganda, Nigeria, and Benin. The initiative aims to strengthen the company’s operational capacity in segments where demand for decentralized energy solutions is growing, according to a statement issued via EIN Presswire.
Local lines to reduce delivery times
The facilities are designed to assemble 50,000 units per month, with a gradual ramp-up based on demand. They include multiple stages, including product configuration, quality control, and final packaging. According to the company, this new setup is expected to reduce delivery times, improve operational flexibility, and limit reliance on international supply chains.
“Completing the first phase of our local assembly expansion is a major milestone for Ignite,” said Yariv Cohen, CEO of Ignite Energy Access. “This is not only about increasing capacity - it is about deepening our roots in Africa.”
The initiative follows Ignite’s 2025 acquisition of ENGIE Energy Access. The deal allowed the company to expand its operations to 14 African countries and serve more than 15 million people, as off-grid systems play a key role in expanding access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), decentralized solutions are now the most cost-effective option for electrifying rural areas far from the grid. The organization estimates that about 55% of new connections in sub-Saharan Africa by 2035 could come from these technologies. Funding for these solutions reached $870 million in 2023, reflecting a 20% increase compared to 2019.
