(Ecofin Agency) - They will be more than 150 journalists, Human Rights activists and academics from several countries. They will meet at the 6th edition of the International Festival of Freedom of Expression and Press Freedom (FILEP), scheduled for 16 to 19 September 2015 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The theme chosen this year is “The Media and political changes in Africa: what contribution”.
The event is organised by the Nobert Zongo National Press Centre and its partners. “Starting with political changes occurring on the continent these past 5 years leading to a reflection on the role and place of the media in the construction, accomplishment and achievement of political and institutional changes in Africa”, explained the Vice-President of the organising committee, Boureima Ouédraogo, during a press conference.
The theme of the festival will be the subject of an international conference. The panels will focus on the experiences of the media and social media during the Arab Spring of 2011, on the contribution of the media to transparency in electoral processes, on media resistance to political pressure and on political and institutional changes in Africa.
A special focus will evidently be made on Burkina Faso which is in full political transition after the fall of President Blaise Compaoré in October 2014.
